Old Garden Roses

Mm. Laurette Messimy is a sweet little China rose,
introduced by Jean-Baptiste Guillot in 1887.

I became interested in Old Garden roses quite a few years back. I love their colors, scents and the shape of the flowers. Some are full, with many petals, some are single variety with just a few. Some are cupped, some have ruffled edges, all are beautiful.

Old garden roses are more hardy than their modern cousins. They are less susceptible to diseases.

Mm. Laurette Messimy can be grown in a container and does very well. I have her in two different containers and also in my shed's garden.

You can find several Old Garden rose nurseries on line. Some have closed recently for various reasons. We do not want to lose these old beauties. They are heirlooms, part of history.

If you want to grow roses that don't take a lot of work, try these. You won't be disappointed.

I have quite a few in our tropical, cottage gardens.
